The ship was quiet now, waiting patiently for the next flurry of activity…The crew was on the planet below, enjoying some well-deserved shore leave, and blowing off some steam in the process…It had been some time since the last one, and they were enjoying it…Aside from one or two notable exceptions, the ship was cruising with a skeleton crew…

Scotty was ankle-deep in the port-side Jefferies tube, attempting to reconfigure a particularly cantankerous set of circuits…The language he was employing in this task was of a sort unknown to the clergy, and mostly a mixture of Scottish, Terran, and a little known dialect found on Griblich…This particular combination had been known to peel the paint off the hull…

Sulu was in the gym, attempting to teach Chekov the finer points of fencing, not having much success in the attempt…The bottle of Romulan ale they had shared earlier might possibly have been part of the reason...

Chapel and Uhura had managed to finagle Bones into having a late supper with them at a popular little restaurant on the surface…He was reluctant at first, but after finding out that they served a very tolerable Mint Julep, he decided that his numerous medical reports could wait till tomorrow…

Kirk and Spock were in Kirk's quarters…They had planned their 'shore leave' as they usually did, ever since they had come to the realization that they were happier together than apart…It was hard for them to have time together alone, and any excuse to do so were pearls beyond price…Sometimes, they were so anxious to be together that they forgot the little things in the process…Occasionally, very important little things, like flipping the inner door lock…

Scotty finally wrestled the circuits into some semblance of working order, and slid out of the Jefferies tube with a sigh of relief…It had been a hard battle, but, as always, he emerged the winner…He walked to his desk in Engineering, and saw that he had forgotten to give the Captain the specs for the new processors he was interested in installing…The Captain liked to stay informed of any new equipment Scotty planned on using, even if the technology was a bit over his head…Well, he was done here for the night, and he could take them by the Captain's quarters on the way to his own….

"Jim, do you remember a short time ago, shortly after you were injured, and I refused to assist you in escaping Sick Bay? And how you retaliated subsequently in your own Human version of revenge?" Spock sat stiffly on the edge of the bunk, and fixed Jim with his patented blank look…Jim gazed back, with his eyes twinkling, and the beginnings of a smirk…They had just enjoyed a rather long shower together, and the emotions which began there were, Jim hoped, going to culminate in another long, loving evening…But, something in Spock's face told Jim that, quite possibly, this was not going to be the case…

"Of course I remember, Spock…How could I forget the look on your face, or how you stood at your station for several days thereafter…?" Jim wasn't sure where this discussion was leading, but he had the feeling that he wasn't going to like it…

"As a Vulcan, I do not hold to the notion of 'revenge', it is a Human concept, full of negative emotions, and illogic…But, I am also Human, and as such, I can understand the attraction of 'tit for tat' as it were…And right now, it is the Human half of me that addresses you, and it is that half of my nature that is going to enjoy very much this revenge I am about to perform upon your person..."and saying this, he rose up off the bunk, grabbed Jim's arm and sat back down, pulling a very startled Jim across his knee…

It was at this exact moment that Scotty stepped into the room to deliver the specs for the new processors to the Captain…His  eyes flew open wide, as he took in the scene before him, and in a shocked voice exclaimed,

"Mr. Spock!!! What're ya doin' to da Capt'n!!!!!!!"

And then the band played, and we all went home...
Submitted for your approval...A sequel to 'Standing Room Only'...

Once again, my deepest thanks go out to Jacksam253, who gave me Scotty's last line...:worship:

The last line of this story is a long-running family joke...My great-grandfather was well known for his wonderful stories, and he loved to hold forth in front of a crowd of children, and have them rapt, waiting for the next thing to happen...He would get to the climax, building the suspense until they were hanging on his every word, and then say,"And then the band played, and we all went home..." leaving them to roll around on the floor in frustration, yelling for more...This line has been utilized in our family ever since, whenever you want to leave 'em hanging...I thought I'd use it here, as I have no intention of writing the ending, leaving it to your very lively imaginations to fill in the blanks...:D

haha!! This was epic win!! I could almost hear Scotty's last line!!
haha!!
And also I can imagine Bones later saying "Damnit, Jim! I'm a doctor, not an engineer's pshycriatist!" (I think I miss-spelled the last word, but no way I'm going to the english-spanish dictionary! XD)
